Value of AIRTV
AIRTV improves the introduction of European technologies by setting up an efficient control and performance verification system. This fact can stimulate the market introduction of new air emissions reduction and abatement technologies. This market introduction is difficult at the moment due to the present lack of confidence between suppliers and end users as no reliable and useful information on the technology performance is available.
AIRTV will enhance the uptake of environmental technologies by raising the confidence of the main stakeholders (including investors) through the provision of reliable and independent performance data and protocols related to air pollution prevention and abatement technologies. AIRTV will help as such to accelerate the market introduction of new and available technologies with environmental benefits due to an increased knowledge of developers, investors, vendors and purchasers related to the performance, environmental and economic benefits of these technologies.
Encouraging the implementation of techniques and approaches for air emission prevention and reduction, AIRTV contributes to different societal problems as well. Stimulating the introduction of new, more sustainable technologies boosts a sustainable environmental protection, as well as the quality of life and safety and health by a decrease of air emissions.
Although AIRTV is directed to non-standardised air emissions reduction and abatement technologies, the project will support standardisation work at European level via CEN through a CWA approach. So, the results of AIRTV will facilitate this standardisation process.
Related to policy developments AIRTV will directly contribute to the objectives of the next programmes:
- Action Plan for Environmental Technologies (ETAP) (COM 2004 nº 38)
- Sixth Environmental Action Programme (6 EAP) (COM 2001 nº 31)
- Clean Air for Europe (CAFE ) (COM 2001 nº 245)
- Integrated Product Policy (IPP) (COM 2003 nº 302)
- Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) (Directive of 1996)
